DOE, Duke Energy, ABB, others say U.S. has potential for 54 GW of offshore wind power

The U.S. has sufficient offshore wind energy resources to have at least 54 GW of offshore wind, according to a study by the Department of Energy and industry partners. The DOE -funded "National Offshore Wind Energy Grid Interconnection Study," conducted by a team of energy organizations, has concluded an intensive three-year investigation assessing technical aspects for high levels of offshore wind energy production along U.S. coastal regions, with encouraging results.
